HOST UK - Short Term Host

Make the world a little friendlier! Spend a day or weekend with an adult international student, learning about their culture, showing them your local area and inviting them to experience your own home life.

Volunteer hosts invite students to stay so the student can experience ‘real’ Britain, away from university and heavy tourism, and so the host can meet new people and learn about diverse cultures from around the world.

There are no specific expectations from a host visit, other than the student should be made to feel part of your family. Hosts can show their local area, visit friends, or just spend time chatting. This is not a tourism opportunity for the student and hosts are not expected to act as ‘tour-guides’.

So, if you’d like to enjoy an unusual and rewarding activity, meet new people and travel the world on your sofa, get in touch with HOST UK.

Asthma UK - Volunteer Speaker

Volunteer speakers wanted to help let more people know about living with asthma and about the work of Asthma UK. This in turn helps us gain further support for our work. You will be given training and promotional materials to enable you to give talks on our behalf. Funds raised will go towards improving the lives of the millions of people the UK who suffer with asthma.

Volunteering

Whether you want to start volunteering, or are a group looking for volunteers VAO can help.  We act as the link between organisations and volunteers and can help match the right volunteer with the right volunteer opportunity.

why volunteer?

People volunteer for all different reasons -

        • meet new people
        • learn different skills
        • use free time doing something worthwhile
        • build up your CV
        • gain experience in a particular field
        • give something back to the community
        • use skills and knowledge to help others

Everyone has their own unique reason for volunteering and there are hundreds of opportunities out there, just waiting for you! That’s where we come in!  VAO will take you through the registration process and help match you up with the right opportunity.  We’ll even take you along and introduce you to your placement organisation to make your first step easier.  After that you can expect us to keep in touch with you to make sure that you’re still enjoying your volunteering.
