6 men from the Red Watch of Kirkwall Airport's Fire Service aim to climb the highest mountain in each of Scotland, England and Wales in less than 24 hours, and raise a lot of money for charity in the process.

Neil Tait, Andrew Rendall, Neil Robertson, David Hamilton, Grieg Rorie and Scott Milne are undertaking the 3 Peaks challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research - the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research.
The National Three Peaks Challenge is a mountain-endurance challenge in Great Britain, with a history of over 40 years, in which participants attempt to climb the highest peaks of each of the island's three countries. Whilst the challenge has no official rules or time restrictions, many participants including the Orkney team will try and complete it within 24 hours, using motorised transport to travel between the mountains.
They will be starting the challenge at 5pm on the 20th of May 2011 at the base of Ben Nevis, and hope to complete this in 5 hours. This will be followed by a 6 hour drive, then up and down England's highest peak Scafell Pike in an anticipated 5 hours. Mt Snowdon in Wales is next, after a 4 hour drive, leaving fours hours for the ascent.
If you wish to support them you can arrange to make a donation directly, or online through their Justgiving page.
As they say themselves:
"Cancer is something that has affected all of us within Kirkwall Airport Fire Section and we are more than happy to go through this challenge to raise money for Cancer Research. Please donate a small amount to this worthy cause."
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
