Twelve new Council homes in St Mary’s will be on show at an Open Day today from 11:30am to 2.30pm.
These latest Council houses take the total of new homes built by OIC in its current house building programme up to 56 – almost halfway to the Council’s target of 125 by 2013.
The new development of 12 bungalows at the north end of the village includes six 2-bedroom homes, four 3-bedroom homes and two wheelchair accessible 2-bedroom homes.
Chair of the Council’s Social Services and Housing Committee, Roderick McLeod, said: “It’s a pleasure to see more new Council Houses being completed, on display and ready to become real homes.
“These latest houses in St Mary’s are evidence of the Council’s determination to support rural communities and to provide social housing right across Orkney.”
